Policy Statement
Forma Studio is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our design practice and to designing buildings that perform responsibly throughout their operational life. We believe that environmental consideration is not a specialist service or an optional addition to an architectural brief — it is a foundational obligation of the profession.

Our Commitments
Passive Design Priority
Every project begins with an assessment of passive design opportunities — solar orientation, natural ventilation strategy, thermal mass, daylighting, and shading. These strategies are incorporated into the design from the concept stage, not retrofitted during design development.
Material Responsibility
We assess the embodied carbon and environmental performance of materials at the specification stage. Where equivalent performance can be achieved through lower-impact materials, we recommend them. We do not specify materials whose environmental or ethical provenance cannot be verified.
Operational Energy
Our designs target building envelope performance standards that reduce operational energy consumption below regulatory minimums. We coordinate with MEP engineers from early design stages to ensure that mechanical systems are sized in response to a high-performance envelope, not compensating for a poor one.
Waste Reduction
We design for construction waste minimisation through modular planning, standard material dimensions, and clear construction detailing. We do not produce drawings that require contractors to make material cutting decisions that generate avoidable waste.
Studio Operations
Our internal studio operations are managed to minimise environmental impact including paper consumption, digital-first document management, and responsible procurement of studio materials and equipment.
Applicable Standards
Local municipal environmental regulations across all project jurisdictions. LEED and BREEAM reference standards where certification is required by client brief. ASHRAE 90.1 energy performance guidance.
