Policy Statement

Forma Studio is committed to ensuring that our design process actively contributes to the health and safety of everyone who will construct, occupy, maintain, or interact with the buildings we design. We recognise that architects hold a unique position of responsibility in the construction process — our drawings define the environment in which others will work and live.

Our Commitments

Design Stage Safety

Every project undergoes a formal design risk assessment at concept, design development, and construction documentation stages. Hazards introduced by design decisions — including structural complexity, material specification, access and egress, maintenance requirements, and construction sequence — are identified and mitigated before drawings are issued.

Construction Phase Coordination

We coordinate with principal contractors on construction phase plans, ensuring that our design intent does not introduce unnecessary risk during the build process. Where site supervision services are engaged, our staff operate under a formal site safety protocol including mandatory PPE compliance, site induction, and hazard reporting procedures.

Occupant Safety

Our designs comply with all applicable life safety codes including fire strategy, means of escape, structural loading, and accessibility standards. Fire engineering coordination is initiated at the design development stage, not as a post-design compliance exercise.

Ongoing Review

This policy is reviewed annually by the studio principal and updated to reflect changes in applicable legislation, regulatory guidance, and industry best practice.

Applicable Standards

Local building codes and municipal safety regulations across all project jurisdictions. International Building Code reference standards where applicable. ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System guidance.
